Butchers accentuate prices problems

In an attempt to maintain the purchasing capacity of Tunisian citizen, the ministry of commerce and handicraft has imported 4.5 tons of meat that have been subjected the health control by the ministry of agriculture which had confirmed that this product can be consumed normally under the certificate of the healthy control authority while import, number 12/122 dated in April, 7th 2012. But after rumors that have been spread in the market, butchers belonging to the national chamber of butchers refuse to get supplies from the imported meat. The president of the Tunisian company of meat has said that there is a deal between the ministry of commerce, the chamber and the company but those butchers retracted from the agreement which state that the selling price of the meat should not exceed 14 dinars and they also tried to spread rumors, as she said, that the meat imported from Australia cannot be consumed and out-of-date. In front of the butchers’ decision to boycott the imported meat, The Tunisian Company of meat was forced to preserve it in the Refrigerated warehouse to sell it later to restaurants and hotels. Mrs. Nourra Fodji, the president of the Company has added that this quantity was imported in order to adjust the market and make pressure on meat prices which are hugely rising these days. She notes also that the company postponed a second consignment of same quantity was programmed in April, 13th after rumors and the boycott. Without forgetting the boycotting of buying meat for three days called for by the organization of defending the consumer last month, this boycott which was the only solution to make a pressure on meat prices. with the non-cooperation of butchers to decrease prices, should the Tunisian citizen boycott the meat for a long time to get reasonable prices ?
